Mount Magazine State Park has scheduled several activities for the weekend. Here are the details.
9 a.m. until noon: Trail Work. Meet at the Visitor Center. It’s spring, and the park’s trails are in need of some maintenance so visitors may fully enjoy their outdoor experience. You can help! Volunteers will team up to repair and improve several sections of trails. Get in on the action to show your appreciation for the park and its hiking facilities. Admission is free of charge.
10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Bear Hollow Overlooks. Meet at the Benefield Picnic Area. Watch as spring creeps up the mountainside. Wildflowers add splashes of color while new leaves provide various shades of green to the forest. Songbirds add music to the mountain. Enjoy magnificent scenery from Sunrise Rock and Inspiration Point. Meet in the Benefield Picnic Area for this 1/2-mile hike. Admission is free.
11 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Making Tracks. Meet at the Visitor Center. The trails in our park are used every day, and not just by humans. Join a park interpreter to identify the tracks that you can find on our trails and the animals that made them. Take away knowledge and make track rubbings of some of our frequent guests to take home with you. Admission is free of charge.
2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Highpoint Hike. Meet in the lodge lobby. Join a park interpreter on a short guided hike to the top of Signal Hill. Learn about the park’s history, habitat and creatures as you climb to the highest point in the state. Admission is free of charge.
