Here are a few of the things going on in the area in the coming days.
1 Open mic: Common Grounds Coffeehouse, located at 46 East Main Street in Booneville will be hosting an open mic night from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone is invited to listen and or play their own set. For more information contact the shop at 1-479 675-2088.
2 Movie In The Park: Starting at dusk on Friday at Creekmore Park, located on Old Greenwood Road in Fort Smith, will host a free movie in the park. The film will be Kubo and the Two Strings. A young boy named Kubo must locate a magical suit of armor worn by his late father in order to defeat a vengeful spirit from the past. The movie is rated PG, and there is no admission charge but attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket.
3 Tribute to Merle Haggard: The Donald W. Reynolds Community Center at 501 South Broadway in Poteau, Okla., will host Marty Haggard on Saturday for a show that starts at 7 p.m. The show is billed as a tribute to Haggard’s father Merle Haggard.
Marty Haggard is the oldest son of the Merle Haggard, will also share some stories of his memories growing up alongside his dad as he wrote and recorded his songs. The show will also include some of Marty Haggard’s original songs. Marty Haggard has had his own accomplished career, performing country music for 40 years, but about seven years ago, his love for his dad and his music inspired him to begin paying tribute to him in concert.
