1. In theaters this weekend is the war action film "12 Strong" rated R, the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; "Den of Thieves" an R-rated crime thriller starring Gerard Butler and follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Department and the state's most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank; and the PG-rated romance "Forever My Girl" about a country star who returns home after eight years to the love he left behind.

2. Friday is one of our favorite non-traditional holidays of the year: Popcorn Day! This is a day to celebrate popcorn. Go to the movies and get some from the concession stand; buy some and have a movie night at home; make some crafts with popcorn; make some caramel corn; or whatever you desire.

3. According to the International Dairy Federation, there are more than 400 different types of cheese. So go out and try a new variety by visiting your local cheese shop on Saturday to celebrate National Cheese Lover's Day. You could pick up a cheesemaking kit from a specialty food store and try making your own mozzarella or ricotta.

4.Sunday is National Hugging Day, a holiday designed to connect people. Hug your family and friends, or send an e-hug. Some places are holding events for this day, so check around and see if your town is doing something.

5. The Super Bowl participants will emerge this weekend. On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots play at 3:05 p.m. ET on CBS, and the Minnesota Vikings face the Philadelphia Eagles at 6:40 p.m. ET on FOX. The winners get a trip to the Super Bowl, which is on Feb. 4.
