Dr. Michael Linimon of Fort Smith has organized a new exhibit at the Fort Smith Museum of History featuring optometry equipment from the late 19th century through the 1970s. The museum will host an opening reception for the exhibit "The Doctor Is In" from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at 320 Rogers Ave.
The collection was acquired in 1968 when Linimon returned from Vietnam and purchased the practice from Dr. William Wood of Fort Smith. Wood first practiced in an office in the Boston Store in the 1930s and later in an office in First National Bank on Garrison Avenue. The 19th century equipment belonged to Dr. J.H. Chapman, an ophthalmologist. Linimon will offer programs for students and tour groups.
The opening reception is included with museum admission of $7 for adults, $5 for veterans and members of the active military, $2 for children and free for ages 6 and younger.
