PEO Chapter M in Paris met recently at Paris High School in the classroom of member Angie Hutson.

Marsha Edwards, coordinator of the mentoring program for Paris schools, presented the program. She told how the program works and stressed its service component, through which mentors and students are involved in a different community service project each month. On display were posters with photographs documenting some of these projects including the Loads of Love laundry service, the Senior Prom and the Luau for the Senior Citizens Center and the cupcake sale to benefit Community Outreach Services. Edwards also emphasized the growth of the mentoring program since its first year and expressed appreciation for those involved.

In the business session following the program, Chapter M voted to make a $200 contribution to COS and discussed further options for financial help to local organizations and scholarship aid to area students. Afterward, Angie Hutson gave members a tour of the newer PHS facilities and updated them on some of the recent accomplishments of students and faculty. The next meeting will be May 20.

PEO is an organization of women whose primary purpose is helping women reach their goals. Through the PEO Foundation, Chapter M in Paris has funded scholarships for Paris High School senior girls for nearly 40 years. All of Chapter M’s fund raising efforts are directed toward those scholarships and local non-profit organizations.
