The Fort Smith city sales tax revenue for February was 1.65 percent less than last February and 3.47 percent below budget for the month, according to an email from the city's finance director.

The city sales tax revenue so far this year is 2.8 percent below last year and 0.8 percent below budget. The total revenue to date is $331,539 less than the budget estimate, according to the email from finance director Jennifer Walker.

The city’s share of the county sales tax for February was 0.98 percent less than last February and 1.96 percent below budget. The city’s share of county sales tax revenue year to date is 1.9 percent below last year to date and 0.5 percent below budget year to date. The total revenue to date is $84,646 less than the budget estimate.

The Fort Smith city sales tax revenue for January was 3.6 percent less than last January and 5.4 percent below budget for the month. The city’s share of the county sales tax for January was 2.55 percent less than last January and 3.53 percent below budget.

"Overall, we are running about 3 percent behind our sales tax targets for the first two months. Finance will be monitoring closely, and if this develops into a trend, we will bring budget adjustment recommendations to the Board of Directors," the email states.

Franchise fees are paid quarterly and will be reported in April. Property taxes will be reported beginning in May, according to the email.

The city sales tax revenue for December 2017 was 2.2 percent more than last December and 2.8 percent above budget for the month, according to a separate email from Walker. The city sales tax revenue ended the year at 0.2 percent above last year and 1.5 percent above budget. The total revenue was $162,286 more than the budget estimate.

The city’s share of the county sales tax for December 2017 was 0.9 percent more than last December and 0.1 percent above budget. The city’s share of county sales tax revenue ended the year 0.7 percent above last year and 0.02 percent below budget. The total revenue was $3,146 less than the budget estimate.

The city sales tax revenue for November 2017 was 1 percent less than last November and 3.2 percent below budget for the month.

The city’s share of the county sales tax for November 2017 was 0.6 percent less than last November and 1.2 percent below budget.
