Springtime in Paris will take place on North Express Street and other locations around Courthouse Square and in Paris Saturday.

This is the second year for the event, which drew an estimated 3,500 people last year.

Last week, the only variable left to consider for Paris Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tonya Baumgartner was the weather. The PACC sponsors the event.

The forecast for Saturday calls for up to a 30 percent chance of rain, mostly cloudy skies, highs in the low 50s and lows in the low 40s.

“I’m a little nervous about the weather,” Baumgartner said last week. “But the event will still take place, rain or shine.”

The event gets underway on Friday when the Miss Paris Pageant takes place at the Paris Middle School auditorium. The pageant is open to girls age birth to 19. The winners in age-group categories will participate in the opening ceremony of Springtime in Paris the next day.

Also scheduled to participate is Miss Arkansas Maggie Benton of Jonesboro who will sing the National Anthem at the opening ceremony and place a padlock on the Locks of Love Fence at Eiffel Tower Park where the opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. The event runs until 4 p.m.

Other activities include a Kidz Zone at the First National Bank of Paris parking lot, performances from the stage at Eiffel Tower Park, craft and food vendors on North Express and Main streets, and appearances by Elmo, Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

“We’re hoping to get 4,000 people this year, if the weather is good,” PACC Executive Director Tonya Varnell said.

Here’s the schedule of the days’ events:
