Becky Bariola, the former Superintendent at Mount Magazine State Park, was named the Logan County Tourism Person of the Year for 2017 last week when the Arkansas River Valley Tripeaks Regional Tourism Association held its annual banquet in Morrilton.

Bariola left Mount Magazine in February when she was named the new Region 5 manager for the Arkansas State Parks, the first woman to hold a regional manager’s position. In Bariola’s new position, she oversees 400 employees at five state parks and at the park system’s newest acquisition, War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

Tonya Baumgartner, executive director of the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce, praised Bariola’s work at Mount Magazine in making the award presentation.

“The Logan County Tourism Award proudly goes to Becky Bariola who has served at the State Park superintendent since the park opened in 2006,” Baumgartner said. “Before being named Region 5 director this year, Becky has been instrumental in the success at Mount Magazine State Park, hosting visitors from all over the region, state and U.S. Becky is responsible for making sure thousands of visitors each year have a fun, yet safe visit to Mount Magazine with plenty to do while they are there.

“Becky has kept all this running like a well-oiled machine for the past 12 years,” Baumgartner said. “Becky, your work in the tourism industry has been what has moved Logan County forward and will continue to do so for years to come.”
