Twenty-six members of the Magazine High School Beta Club attended the National Beta Convention in Savannah, Ga., June 17-20. It was a whirlwind of activity as they participated in seven competitions, bringing home a sixth-place finish in Character Skit.
Because some of the original cast and crew of the character skit group were either unable to attend or busy with other obligations at the convention, several substitutions had to be made. Montana Burris, Hannah Smith and Emily Staton joined original cast members Jesse Witt, Matthew Wood, and Levi Wright for the award-winning adaptation of the original skit written by Reagan Pickartz.
Ten members of the club’s show choir were invited to perform in the Opening Ceremony of the convention, so they spent their first day in Savannah practicing their number from The Greatest Showman and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
A trip to the beach and a little sightseeing topped off the trip, and, since only one member of the group was a senior this past year, most of the conversation on the long bus ride home revolved around plans to make next year a bigger and better one for the Betas.
