The Paris Area Chamber of Commerce, the Tyson-Logan County Career Center, Arkansas Tech University at Ozark, The Arkansas Department of Career Education, the Paris School District and the Governor’s Dislocated Worker Taskforce are bringing a job fair to Paris on Oct. 30.

The event will take place at the Tyson Foods Logan County Career Center, located on the Paris High School campus, from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The event is free of charge.

The job fair comes ahead of announced plans that American Axle and Manufacturing is going to close its manufacturing plant in Paris by the end of the year. Some of the 225 employees will be transferred to the company’s manufacturing plant in Subiaco. How many is not known.

Paris Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tonya Baumgartner said the announced closure of the AAM plant in Paris is the reason the job fair is being held.

“It comes at a good time,” she said last week. “AAM’s announced closure is exactly why we are holding it. Everyone that is helping coordinate this has done an excellent job and they have gotten companies involved. There will be companies there ready to hire people. Have your resume ready because they will be ready to accept.”

The Governor’s Dislocated Worker Task Force will be on hand to help workers make decisions about their future, Baumgartner said.

“They are coming with a van with 17 computers in it,” Baumgartner said. “They will be able to talk about job opportunities and other resources that are available, including additional job training. That service is going to be very important.”
