The Hot Springs Village Good Samaritan Society recently celebrated the founding of the society in 1922, now in its 96th year. Founding father was the Rev. August Hoeger in North Dakota.
Today, the society owns or manages more than 200 locations in 24 states, employing nearly 20,000 staff members and serving more than 30,000 people daily.
“Our health fair is an annual event and we’re grateful for all the information presented by our health related vendors,” said Eric Hushaw, director of marketing and resource development.
“Again, a project we are pursuing with our founders celebration is finding persons in need of modifications made to their homes so they can continue to live in their residency as long as possible. Those needs will include ramps and grab bars and we’re enlisting churches in the area to give us names of possible recipients.”
The fair not only offered health and safety information, but presented door prizes and healthy snacks to attendees.
The event was also a commemorative celebration as it was held in the Edward and Marion Huckins Health and Wellness Center. The generosity of the Huckins donation built the center, and has made it possible for health programs to include occupational therapy offering aids in retraining for daily living and simple life functions.
