John Henry (Jake) Rotert, 99, of Fort Smith passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 in a local hospital.

He was born July 13, 1917 in Prairie View. He was retired from Petit Jean Lumber Company in Fort Smith, a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, and a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith for 75 years. He enjoyed gardening and working with his flowers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Spicer) Rotert of 61 years; his parents, Frank and Abby (Fox) Rotert; six sisters; three brothers; and son-in-law Albert Spears.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St Boniface Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

He is survived by his daughter, Sondra Jean Spears of Fort Smith; a son, John Rotert of Van Buren; a sister, Mary Jane Haynes; one sister-in-law Mickey LeRose; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were son, grandsons, great-grandsons, Larry Winn and John Robus.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Weems, Gary Ewing, Joe Haynes, Jimmy Haynes, David Vorster, Charles Franklin Zimmer, Butch Zimmer and Dale Balls.
