John Harvey (Jr.) Barnes, II, who resided in the Gray Rock community near Paris, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, in Paris. He was born March 20, 1943, in Paris to the late John Harvey Barnes and Fannie Mae (Thomas) Barnes. He was 74 years old. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Priscilla Jean White and brothers, Gary Robinson and James Smith.
Junior was a retired machinist for Cloyes Gear Company in Paris for over 33 years. He was also a farmer, milked cows and hauled lots of hay. Junior was a deacon and member of Poole’s Temple Church of God in Christ in Gray Rock. He was very well respected and loved by many, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, with Pastor Cleveland Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Gray Rock Cemetery, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Anna Marie (Brown) Barnes; his children, John Harvey Barnes, III and wife Ella of Russellville, Gary Allen Barnes and wife Geri of Paris, Valerie S. Barnes of Paris, Norma J. Barnes of Paris, J. Rhyker Alexander of Fayetteville, and Beverly Barnes Wilson and husband Jessie of Paris; his grandchildren, Christopher Harvey Lee Barnes, John Harvey Barnes, IV, Carl Delaney, Caleb Raashan Barnes, LaKeidrea Miyona Barnes; and four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Kay Milum and husband John of Dayton, Ohio and Rosemary Davis and husband Ronnie of Danville; his brothers, Sammy Lee Smith and wife Annie of Havana, Nelson Leroy Smith of Kansas City, and Eddie Lee Smith of Kansas City. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends to mourn his passing on.
Pallbearers will be Vincent Byrd, Dennis Brown, Jr., David Brown, Jason Barker, Freddie Thompson, James Collier, Chris Boss, and John H. Barnes, III.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Parks, Gene Davis, Bently Allen, Christopher Harvey Lee Barnes, Caleb Raashan Barnes, John Harvey Barnes IV, Carl Delaney, Jesse Wilson, Sammy Lee Smith, Eddie Lee Smith, and Nelson LeRoy Smith.
Family will visit with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday night at the funeral home.
