Jerry Thayer McDonald, 73, who resided in Charleston, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Fort Smith.
He was born Nov. 19, 1943, in Charleston to the late Orville McDonald and Alvena (Gramlich) McDonald. He was also preceded in death by two infant daughters, Paula Diane and Jennifer Leigh.
Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Charleston High School. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was a retired agri teacher at Booneville High School and taught at Scranton High School. He was a full-time cattle rancher and poultry farmer, a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association, and he continued to support the National FFA Chapters. Jerry was a member of the 20 year Agriculture Teachers Club and of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston.
Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 18, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy (Campbell) McDonald; sons, Rusty McDonald and Joel McDonald, all of Charleston; sister, Ginger Abernathy of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Willie McDonald of Charleston; five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony Miesner, Dr. Charles Miesner, Albert White, Paul David Gramlich, Gary Gray, Jimmy Tanner, Hayden McDonald, and Mason McDonald.
The family will visit with friends following the rosary service.
