Alfred Joseph Abshere, 68, who resided near Lavaca, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in Fort Smith.

He was born Feb. 16, 1949, in Landshut, Germany. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Abshere; and one nephew, Heath Spence.

Alfred was a quality engineer at Baldor Electric Company in Fort Smith for 49 years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Alfred loved his family very much, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23rd, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Officiating the service will be Alfred’s close friends, Ken Woodard, Steve Reynolds, and Merle Bradley. Cremation and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Homeand Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Janie (Gayle) Abshere; one daughter, Jennifer Taylor of Lavaca; Jennifer’s mother, Kay Waggoner of Charleston; his mother, Mary Ann Abshere of Mt. Ida; one sister, Rita Austin of Mt. Ida; two grandchildren; a nephew; and his extended family.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lind Strassburg, Erick Spence, Chris Campbell, Greg Dawson, Chris Moody, Johnny McKusker, Brad McDaniel, Gary Weems, employees and former employees of Baldor Electric Company, and employees of Southwester Die-Casting Company.
