Magazine head baseball coach Randy Loyd has been named to the West All Star staff for the annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association All Star games to be held on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas June 20.

Loyd, whose Rattlers finished 20-10 on the season, losing a 1-0 game to Harmony Grove in the Class 2A state quarterfinals, will be joined on the staff by Ryan Casalman at County Line.

Kyle Slaton of Class 4A champion Nashville is the head coach of the West and Will McGinnis of Greenland rounds out the staff.

This marks the 14th year for baseball in the all star week festivities. Football will be played for the 62nd year.

The baseball doubleheader will be played at Bear Stadium starting at 5 p.m. on June 20.

Rosters for the squads have not been announced but Magazine also had two all state recipients this season in Loyd’s son, senior Shaffer Loyd, and Randon Baumgartner.

Shaffer Loyd hit .418 on the season with six doubles and three home runs. He drove in a team-high 27 and had a slugging percentage of .608. Drawing 20 walks, his on base percentage was .589. On the mound Loyd threw 60.1 innings and had a 1.28 ERA.

Baumgartner, a junior, threw 73.1 innings and struck out 109 with an ERA of 1.91. Offensively Baumgartner doubled twice and hit one home run. He finished with a .289 batting average. With 15 walks his on base average was .400.
