On Saturday, June 24, the Paris chapter of the the Knights of Columbus hosted their third annual charity golf tournament at Little Creek Golf Course and Country Club.
It was a great day, with the weather cooperating and the course in good condition, the country club was flooded with golfers from across the region. The tournament fills the venue, drawing 23 teams for the three-person scramble this year. The teams filled the course early, and seniors and the ladies played from their respective tee boxes for the duration of the tournament, allowing teams to be competitive for the prizes, awarded in three flights at the conclusion of the tournament.
Along with their door prizes, the Knights of Columbus provided food and drinks for all competitors for the day, with a full meal before the final prizes were handed out. The overall winners, first place in the first flight were from Alma. In all, nine teams received prizes along with putting contest winners, closest to the pin, among other challenges.
The tournament is more than a spectacle or an opportunity for socializing. The sole purpose of the tournament is to raise money for local charities. Among those receiving a portion this year are Community Outreach Services in Paris, CASA of the Tri-Peaks, the Paris Boys and Girls Club, and St. Joseph’s Catholic school. Organizers estimated that over 25 volunteers joined in, along with numerous local business and individual sponsors to raise $8,000 on the day.
With course showing the recent efforts to improve play added to the food and weather, everyone went home with a smile on their face, knowing that their fun day on the course will have a lasting impact on Paris through the charitable contributions made from the Knights of Columbus and their sponsors.
