The 29th Annual Cove Lake Fishing Derby, sponsored by Paris Rotary Club, U.S. Forest Service, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the National Wild Turkey Federation, was held on Saturday, June 10, with 114 kids, ages four to nine, participating.
Ninety-five kids weighed in fish. Overall, there were 162 lbs. 12 oz. of catfish caught by the kids. All children participating received prizes.
Special prizes and trophies were given to the three heaviest stringers in two age groups (4-6 and 7-9), smallest fish caught by a hook and tagged fish.
The first place prize for the heaviest stringer (trophy and an Ozark Trail five-person dome tent) went to Riley Floren of Paris, (6 lbs. 1 oz.) in the 7-9 age group and Hayden Eckelhoff of Paris, (3 lbs. 9 oz.) in the 4-6 age group. Second place prize (trophy and Ozark Trail four-person dome tent) went to Aiden Hull of Paris, in the 7-9 age group (4 lbs. 4 oz.) and Cooper James of Paris, (3 lbs. 2 oz.) in the 4-6 age group. Third place prize (trophy and Ozark Trail three-person dome tent) went to Jaxon Talkington of Arkoma, Okla. (3 lbs. 14 oz.) in the 7-9 age group and Caydin Robinson of Paris, (2 lbs. 12 oz.) in the 4-6 age group.
The smallest fish caught on a hook this year was 6.25 inches in length. The smallest fish prize (tyrophy, coin set and epic one-person travel hammock) went to Patience Rogers of Paris.
There was one tagged fish caught this year. The tagged fish prize (Dock Demon fishing pole and Berkley soft tackle box with fishing assortment) was awarded to Cooper James of Paris.
