The day that many had circled on their calendar for some time finally arrived last week.
The undefeated Lady Eagles volleyball team traveled to face 6A power Greenwood to open the week.
From the outset, the pace of play was significantly faster than 3A conference play, with Greenwood forcing each point with a powerful service game and tremendous net play. The Lady Eagles never got in rhythm all evening and took their first loss of the season in straight sets. Though the Lady Eagles were the underdogs coming in, to a player, they will tell you they felt they under performed and were capable of more.
They had no time to ponder what might have been, with Lavaca, the only team to take a set from Paris in 3A league play coming up. On their home court, the Lady Eagles were flawless, showing no lasting effect from the night before, taking control early and sweeping Lavaca 3-0.
Ryleigh Hardwicke led the team with 16 kills.
Mayflower made the trip to Paris on last Thursday, and again, the endurance and conditioning of this team would be on display, facing their third worthy opponent of the week.
Again, they overwhelmed their opponent, holding Mayflower to 16, 18, and 17 point sets in the sweep.
Paris has lost only one set all season in their classification and will again face three opponents this week. They traveled to Hackett on Monday, hosted Mulberry on Tuesday evening before traveling to Waldron Thursday night.
