Scranton basketball teams are back in action after the Christmas break. Here’s a round-up of recent games.

Junior girls beat County Line

The Scranton Junior High Girls defeated County Line 37-22 in the Opal Pistole Tournament at County Line on Saturday, Jan 13. This makes Scranton’s win-loss record 13-5.

Gracie Blaschke led the team with 10 points. Kayla Siebenmorgan and Alivia Ullrich added nine points each. Whitney Fox scored seven, and Libby Kremer made two points.

“We had good intensity this morning from the tip until the final horn,” Coach Brad Harrision said. “We responded well when we had turnovers or missed shots not letting it affect the next play.”

Senior boys defeat Hector

Scranton High School boys beat Hector 47-43 on Friday, Jan 12.

Levi Herring led the scoring with 16 points, followed by Alex Bailey with 12 and Hunter Fleming with 11 points. Cobey Pintado put in six points, Cesar Rodriguez scored two and Brady Shelton ended with one point.

Coach Tyler Hammers said, “We did a good job on the defensive end of the ball and were able to make some timely stops.’’

SHS boys beat Westside

The Scranton High School boys basketball team beat the Johnson County Westside Rebels, 78-49 on Jan. 5.

Levi Herring led the team with 30 points, Alex Bailey followed closely with 21 points while Levi Forst put in nine. Cobey Pintado, Anthony Andrepont, and Sam Horn all tossed in four points apiece. Hunter Fleming, Greg Kohler, and Jackson Rogers scored two points each.

“We had a good team win, moved the ball well, and a lot of guys got involved,” said Scranton Coach Tyler Hammers.

Lady Rockets beat Danville

The Scranton High School Lady Rockets routed Danville 48-37 improving their win-loss record to 7-12.

Rachel Siebenmorgen led with 15 points, followed by Kristy Kohler with 12 points. Destiny Ferrari added 11, while Kristen Stehle scored eight points and Jessica Barr rounded out the scoring with two .

Coach Brad Harrison said, “We were able to put together four quarters of good effort tonight. I thought our defense did a good job of controlling the game in the second half and we did well handling the ball limiting their easy shot opportunities.’’

Junior girls beat Danville

The Scranton Junior High Lady Rockets rolled over Danville 46-21 on Jan. 9 moving their win-loss record to 11-5.

Scoring in double digits were Gracie Blaschke with 16 points followed by Kayla Siebenmorgen with 15. Alivia Ullrich added five, while Whitney Fox and Libby Kremer put up three points each. Mattie Roper and Alyssa Harmon made two points apiece.

“We did a good job limiting our turnovers tonight and finishing around the rim. I liked our intensity on defense, especially in the second half,” said Scranton Coach Brad Harrison.

Junior girls beat Westside

The Scranton Junior High Lady Rockets overpowered Johnson County Westside 24-20 on Jan. 4 win improving their win-loss record to 10-5.

Whitney Fox led the way with nine points, followed by Gracie Blaschke with eight. Alivia Ullrich scored four points, and Libby Kremer rounded out the score with three points.

Coach Brad Harrison said, “We had a great defensive performance through three quarters, holding them scoreless in two of them. The other team picked up their play in the fourth quarter and we failed to respond, but still pulled out the victory.”

Senior girls lose to Westside

The Scranton High School Lady Rockets were defeated by Johnson County Westside 60-27 on Jan. 5 moving their win/loss record to 6-12.

Kristy Kohler put on a show with 16 points. She was followed by Rachel Siebenmorgen with five, and Kristen Stehle with three. Joshlyn Terry added two points and Destiny Ferrari completed the game with one.
