Subiaco Academy finished the regular basketball season on a good note as they routed Waldron and Mansfield before entering tournament play.
Tournament play started on Tuesday, against Dardanelle in Pottsville. If the Trojans won that game they play Thursday, at 8 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Subiaco played Waldron in a rematch of the game played in early January. The Trojans were wore out that night by the Bulldogs and super sophomore Peyton Brown. Brown scored 56 and led the Bulldogs to a 73-69 win.
The Trojans took ownership of their play, got themselves in better shape and won eight of the next nine. It was Senior Night and both teams struggled to score early. The Trojans led 9-5 after one period. The second period saw a little more action and the Trojans increased their lead to 23-14 at intermission. The third period was one that Trojan faithful will remember, as the Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 31-6 to take a 54-18 lead into the last period and settle for a 57-27 win.
Tom Myers led the Trojans with 16 points, followed by Elvis Janga with 13 and John Capps with 12.
On Friday, the Trojans travelled to Mansfield to take on the Tigers. The Trojans struggled with the Tigers in early January, winning by a score of 44-37. There would be no struggle on this night as the Trojans jumped on the Tigers and never looked back. Leading 45-20 at the half, the Trojans once again had the clock running in the fourth period to settle on a 71-35 win. This game was a different game than the one the fans saw in the first meeting of the two teams.
James Taylor was a stat sheet stuffer with 21 points, six rebounds, seven assist and five steals. Elvis Janga, Tom Myers and Devon Forest combined for 33 points in an all around well balanced game.
