The Paris Lady Eagle softball team has emerged as a true contender. After their run in the Clarksville tournament, they beat two 4A opponents by a combined 20-6 deficit.

As their classmates headed to spring break last week, they headed to Hope for a tournament. In the opening round, they would again play one of the larger schools, as they faced Harrison. Freshman Jadyn Hart took the mound and struck out 13 in a 4-0 shutout.

Sydney Ward started the first game on Saturday, striking out eight. The Lady Eagles broke it wide open in the third inning, scoring six in route to an 8-1 win over Magnet Cove.

In the championship game, Ward struck out eight and Hart hit a grand slam as Paris downed Magnolia to take the trophy home.

Though the names of Hart and Ward often lead the headlines, it is leadership from others like Senior Morgan Johnson and the development of Lexy Lee and Sadi Stark that are making an impact. Any given game, you can find a different name on the score sheet that stepped up with runners in scoring position.

If this team can keep the momentum, they can make a lot of noise in the 3A race.

This week they have a home and home series with rival Charleston, with the home game scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. With the win, the Lady Eagles are 13-4 on the season.
