The Subiaco Academy Trojan soccer team played three matches this week winning two and losing one.
The Trojans played a weather make-up match against perennial state power Green Forest on Tuesday, April 10. The Trojans jumped out to an ealry lead by applying offensive pressure, utilizing the speed of Mark Popov and playing stingy defense. The Trojans led 2-1 at the half and added another goal in the second to take a 3-1 lead only to have Green Forest mount a furious comeback to take the win with a score of 4-3.
Mark Popov led the Trojans with three goals and Won Young Choe and Aidan Everett each had an assist.
The Trojans made the trek to Eureka Springs the next day and shut out the Highlanders by a score of 4-0. Won Young Choe led the team with two goals with Mark Popov and Aidan Everett each having one. Ty Moran provided two assists and goalie Jonathan Robinson had four saves with the Trojan defense not allowing good shots on goal.
The Trojans finished the week with a home match on Friday against Gentry. The match started as a defensive struggle until the Trojans broke open the match with two goals in the final two minutes of the first half. Won Young Choe made a penalty kick in the 38th minute and Choe quickly followed less than a minute later with another goal scored in transition from an assist provided by Ty Moran.
The Trojan defense locked up Gentry in the second half and came away with a 2-0 victory. Jonathan Robinson finished the game with six saves.
