She’s been close a couple times, but last week Kailee Johnson did something she’d never done before, she threw a no hitter and the Lady Eagles took a 2-0 win over the Two Rivers Gators.

Johnson struck out seven batters and walked one during the game and the Lady Eagle defense did their job with Rylee Pennington catching a pop-up at second base for the final out of the game.

After going down one-two-three in the first inning, the Lady Eagles took advantage of a walk and an error to put runners in scoring position with one out. Unfortunately, the next two batters for Paris struck out, leaving the runners on the bases and the score knotted at 0-0.

In the top of the third inning, Kytan Tencleve reached on an error and Christa Huber followed with a walk. A double steal and another Lady Gator error allowed Tencleve to score and Huber to advance to third. Once again the Lady Eagles left the runner stranded but they did have a 1-0 lead.

Pennington and Tencleve took advantage of Lady Gator errors in the top of the fifth with Pennington getting to the plate on a throwing error by the catcher to give the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

Johnson started off the fifth by striking out the first batter but then walked the next to give the Lady Gators a runner. The next Lady Gator reached on an error but two pop-ups brought the game to an end with the no-hitter preserved.
