The Helping Our Kids organization of Scranton will holds its eighth annual Helping Our Kids BBQ Cook-off on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Scranton City Park.

The day’s activities begin at 9 a.m. with the John Brewster Memorial 5K Run. Registration for the event will begin at 8 a.m.

A horseshoe tournament will take place at 10 a.m. Blow up bounce arounds for kids will be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Food will be served at the American Legion building beginning at 12:30. The price is $2 for adults and $1 for students in grade K-12 for hamburgers or hot dogs.

A parade will take place at noon. Beginning at 1 p.m., music will be presented in the park. A mini-tractor pull will begin at 1 p.m.

Judging for the cook-off will begin at 2 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will hold a bull drop at 3 p.m. The awards ceremony for the cook-off will begin at 4 p.m. First place wins $500. Second place wins $300. Third place wins $100.
