A resident of Earl Prairie Road in south Logan County is in the Logan County Detention Center charged in connection with a May 27 shooting on Walker Mountain Road and in connection with his alleged entry into a woman’s home on Brown Road, according to Logan County Sheriff Boyd Hicks.

Brian McCumber, 44, of Earl Prairie Road, is facing charges of terroristic threatening, first degree battery, aggravated robbery and could face assault charges, Hicks said last week.

The Walker Mountain Road shooting incident started with an argument over money owed, Hicks said.

Deputies received a call about a shooting on Walker Mountain Road between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, Hicks said.

“It turns out McCumber hit a Walker Mountain Road victim over the head with a chair in the middle of an argument about money owed,” Hick said. “The victim got a gun and apparently shot himself in the elbow and hit McCumber several times. McCumber was transported to the Booneville Hospital in a personal vehicle and later airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.”

Hicks said a deputy was sent to Fort Smith and stood guard over McCumber for 24 hours. McCumber was arrested upon his release from the hospital and transported to the Logan County Detention Center.

Between that Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon on May 28, Hicks said deputies got information about another incident involving McCumber.

“He entered a woman’s home uninvited and the woman attempted to shoot him,” Hicks said. “He went out to his vehicle, got a gun and told the woman that he would be back. He allegedly just walked into the woman’s home uninvited. They knew each other.”

Hicks added that McCumber recently moved to Logan County from Missouri and had “extensive prior” charges from Missouri.
