A truck service worker died after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 40 in Conway around 2 a.m. Aug. 12, according to an Arkansas

State Police report.

Kenneth Weldon-Trase Ellis, 33, of Leslie had just finished repairing a flat tire on a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the 127 mile-marker entrance ramp when he was hit by a 1986 Nissan, authorities said.

The report didn’t name the driver of the Nissan or of the disabled tractor-trailer. It indicates there was one other person injured in the crash but provided no further details on who was injured or the extent of the injuries.

Police said the disabled tractor-trailer was parked facing the opposite direction of traffic.

“[The Nissan] traveled from the right lane and entered the west bound entrance ramp. [It] then struck the non-motorist and [the tractor-trailer],” the report reads in part.

Authorities said the road was dry and the weather was clear at the time of the crash.

Ellis was the 296th person who died on an Arkansas roadway this year, according to preliminary data.
