Sister Valeria Moellers, 98, of Fort Smith died Oct. 17, 2013 in the St. Scholastica Monastery Infirmary. The family of John & Mary Rose Dilger Moellers welcomed their daughter, Rose Elizabeth, into their family Feb. 26, 1915 in Fort Smith. After graduating from St. Scholastica Academy, she taught music several years before entering St. Scholastica Convent. She became a novice on June 24, 1935 and received the name of Sister Valeria. Sister Valeria began her career of teaching music in 1936 and continued until she retired to the monastery in 1992. Her assignments took her to Little Rock, Lake Village, and Paris and for many years in Fort Smith. After she retired, Sister Valeria accompanied the sisters during Mass and prayers until her failing eye sight made it impossible for her to continue. Many of her students came back to visit her and renew their fond memories of her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John Frank and two sisters, Helen Marie Breitenstein and Augusta Best.

Vespers for the dead will be Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Monastery Chapel.
