Ashton Young tossed a one-hit shutout over four innings as Waldron defeated West Fork, 10-0, in 3A-1 West softball action Thursday.

Young walked one batter and struck out two.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-3, 2-0) scored runs in all four innings, including five in the third to build an 8-0 lead.

Taylor Stacy went 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs, and Rhegan Stanford was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Cabot 13, Southside 6

Cabot spoiled Southside's 6A-Central opener on Thursday, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the second in the game at Evans Boys and Girls Club.

The Lady Panthers scored runs in all seven innings, and also hit five home runs in the win.

Meliah Hunter went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored for Southside (6-3, 0-1). Also for the Mavericks, Hannah Hogue went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, Hayley Hall was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while Madi Conklin was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
